With schools dating back to the 1870s, the award-winning Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) is now the 16th largest school district in California. RUSD educates nearly 42,000 students across 50 schools in Riverside. The District serves a large portion of Riverside as well as the unincorporated areas of Highgrove and Woodcrest. RUSD is led by its 12th Superintendent, Ms. Renee Hill and is governed by a Board of Education comprised of publicly elected officials who serve five different trustee areas.

The Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT) is responsible for providing the direction, planning, coordination and oversight of the physical plant, building maintenance, custodial operations, grounds, energy management, and transportation for the purposes of maintaining school facilities in a clean, safe and functional condition.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish policies, procedures and protocols that meet all required maintenance standards as required by Federal, State, local and district guidelines.
  • Manage and coordinate budget and financial aspects of department for the purpose of ensuring financial records are maintained, adequate funds are available to meet the needs of the District; and funds are utilized in accordance with Federal, State, local and district procedures and policies.
  • Develop, maintain and assess the District’s Comprehensive Maintenance Plan and Deferred Maintenance Program, ensuring facility condition assessments are performed as required, adjustments made to the district’s project list, and proper communication of MOT’s projects are coordinated with facilities, administration and site personnel.
  • Manage programs and projects (e.g. deferred maintenance, Williams Act, AHERA, Healthy Schools Act, IPM program, inspections, telecommunications, energy management, environmental quality control to include asbestos, hazardous materials, air quality, recycling and other environmental issues, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring highest level of service and compliance with all Federal, State, local and district policies, procedures and guidelines.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Education equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with a major in School Administration, Business, Public Administration, Architecture Design or Engineering is desirable.
    • Background and experience in education facilities is highly desirable.
    • Experience in preparing, monitoring and balancing large complex budgets.
    • Experience in building trades, mechanical trades, electronics, vehicle repair, grounds maintenance, custodial, transportation and project management is required.
    • Extensive and successful experience addressing personnel matters.
