Charter School Principalship in World-Class Palm Desert Location George Washington Charter Elementary School (WCES) and Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD) is seeking a California-certified principal with public school (preferably charter school) experience to begin Summer 2024. About Our School Ranked in the top 4% of California charter elementary schools, WCES is a thriving school community serving 750 TK-5 students from throughout the Coachella Valley. Established over 25 years ago as one of the earliest California schools to convert from traditional to charter schooling, we are authorized by Desert Sands Unified School District and governed by a local council made up of seven student-centered school staff, parent, and community members. We proudly serve with excellence a diverse student body of 750 students who are 11% English Learner and 49% socioeconomically disadvantaged. Our local reputation attracts fantastic educators who are happy with their employment as evidenced by low turnover and high engagement. We employ 60+ teachers and staff members. Our retiring principal, a pioneer in California charter education, led the school for 26 years and achieved exceptional results across all measures including academics and finance. Our campus sits on a five acre parcel surrounded by residential neighborhoods near the El Paseo shopping district. 60,000 square feet of building space includes a dedicated cafeteria, multi-purpose room, STEM lab, Art room, library, spacious offices, teacher’s lounge & more. We additionally have two outdoor playgrounds and an open field. As a charter school, we attract like-minded, hard-working families who want to be part of our school community. We are consistently enrolled to capacity with a waitlist each year. We have a thriving Parent Club Foundation that volunteers to host events and fundraisers throughout the year to build community and sense of belonging in the school.
