About the Employer
The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary
Our Alternative Education Division provides educational options to diverse student populations referred by local school districts, probation, and social services. We are currently recruiting talented professionals to serve as Teachers for our ACCESS Division to plan and provide instruction to individuals in various assignments throughout our program. Examples of teaching assignments include using seat time or independent study instructional models to provide education to at-promise students in Community-Based Programs (CBP), including charter schools primarily serving students between the ages of 18 and 26; delivery of educational services to incarcerated youth in care who are going through the juvenile justice system; and offering educational support through the Community Home Education Program (CHEP) or Pacific Coast High School (PCHS) to families who choose to provide direct instruction to their child in the home or outside the traditional district school model.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Recent experience working in alternative educational settings or charter schools teaching at-promise students preferred. • Bachelor or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Licenses, Certificates, And Special Requirements: • Possession and maintenance of a valid Single or Multiple Subject California teaching credential authorizing instruction at the elementary or secondary level. Intern-eligible candidates are welcome to apply with priority given to fully credentialed applicants. • Meet the Basic Skills Requirement through one of the methods listed on Form CL-667 on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website - www.ctc.ca.gov. There are supplemental questions in the application. Please note that the EdJoin system will time-out after a 20-minute period of perceived inactivity.
