Job Summary
The Multiple Subject/General Education Teacher is employed by John Muir Charter Schools (JMCS) and is responsible for classroom instruction of young people (grades 6-12 attending the JMCS Earle Jamieson (EJ) site in Nevada City, CA. The teacher will work closely with JMCS administration, NCSOS staff, and community partners to provide inclusive, wrap-around services for enrolled students. The EJ student population includes primarily students that have been suspended or expelled from other Nevada County schools or are currently on probation. Accrued sick leave. Medical, dental and vision benefits. JMCS pays into CalSTRS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Education or any related field. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: • A current California Multiple Subject teaching credential, or ability to acquire Provisional Intern or Short Term Staff Permit while working towards credential. Single Subject credentials may be accepted in some circumstances. • Authorization for Supporting English Language Learners required

Comments and Other Information
The Multiple Subject Teacher will be responsible for assisting students at EJ to complete middle school or their high school diploma and to provide necessary support services to enable participants to be successful. The teacher will assist with enrolling and assessing students to determine the proper course of study that will lead to a high school diploma and prepare them for successful continuation to post-secondary education. The teacher’s primary role will be to instruct students in multiple subjects at multiple skills levels. The teacher reports to the JCMS Site Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare monthly, weekly, and daily lesson plans for all courses.
• Be able to teach middle and high school level multiple subject courses at a
variety of student skill levels.
• Commitment to the JMCS model and ability incorporate practical
learning experiences related to job readiness, life skills and leadership.
• Coordinate with JMCS staff and be a strong team player to ensure
comprehensive, synchronized services.
• Conduct culturally relevant classes appropriate for students coming from many
cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and economic backgrounds and incorporating students’
experiences into learning.
• Inform the Site Directors and other appropriate staff of academic and non-
academic issues that affect student progress
• Incorporate college and career planning into regular classroom practice.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress on standardized assessments (STAR)
• Perform duties associated with attendance and record-keeping.
• Other duties as assigned
• The teacher will complete all necessary paperwork as required by John Muir
Charter Schools administration, as well as any paperwork requested by the
Nevada County Superintendent of Schools (NCSOS).
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated ability to engage disenfranchised young people from "at risk"
conditions in meaningful, interesting, and creative learning experiences.
• Demonstrated knowledge in developing class and individual learning plans for
students.
• Dedication to the basic philosophy of emphasizing the core curriculum and
commitment to the vision, mission, core values and philosophy of.
• Be able to integrate leadership development in the classroom and empower
youth through knowledge, literacy, and numeracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
WORK HOURS
Onsite classroom hours are Monday-Friday approximately 8:00 am-3:30 pm. Classroom
hours may change based on teacher and student availability or student transportation
schedules.
