LANGUAGE, SPEECH, HEARING (LSH) SPECIALIST
JOB SUMMARY
Language, Speech, Hearing (LSH) Specialist will, under supervision of the Director of Special Education and with the cooperation of the site administrator(s), perform a wide variety of specialized and responsible tasks including the working with identified students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Credential: Basic California teaching credential(s) that authorizes participation as a Language, Speech, Hearing Specialist.
2. Education: Bachelor’s degree, including all courses needed to meet all credentialing requirements.
3. Experience: Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
4. Personal Qualifications: Better than average recommendations from professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
Ability to:
Teach under conditions which necessitate small group and individualized instruction in collaborative settings within the regular classroom and/or in an extended day setting.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with administrators, teachers, students and parents.
Make appropriate recommendations to teachers regarding instructional programs for identified students.
Make verbal and written reports to school personnel, parents, School Site Council and administration.
Analyze and interpret test scores for purposes of modifying instruction.
Plan, organize and evaluate education programs for identified students.
Work successfully with administrators, teachers, students and parents.
Maintain and verify accuracy and completeness of records.
Provide work direction to others as assigned.
Speak and write clearly and effectively.
Follow-through with directives.
Meet schedules and deadlines.
Plan and organize work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
1. Perform a wide variety of specialized tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.
2. Screen referrals of students with language, speech, and hearing handicaps.
3. Performs complete diagnostic work-up on students for their particular handicap and needs.
4. Places a student in the appropriate program implemented by the LSH specialist, or refers to other more appropriate programs.
5. Confers with parents, teachers and other specialists with regard to student=s handicap.
6. Directs and supervises the activities of students within the classroom in formal and informal settings that provide standards of student behavior necessary to achieve a functional learning experience.
7. Individualizes instruction and is knowledgeable and comfortable with multi-media techniques and specialized materials.
8. Interprets and applies District, county, state, and federal regulations and laws relative to assigned duties.
9. Actively participates in the development of student IEP and IEP team process for student case load.
10. Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements.

4 Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
3 Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

4 Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
4 Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
2 Ability to bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl.
1 Ability to lift 50 pounds.
2 Ability to carry 25 pounds.
3 Ability to operate office equipment.
4 Ability to reach in all directions.
