Job Summary

Job Summary

West Contra Costa Adult Education is seeking a teacher for a test prep course designed to prepare individuals with necessary skills required to pass the verbal (reading comprehension) section of the aptitude exams for the union trades. The individual will be responsible for teaching remedial reading comprehension (4th-8th grade), reasoning, and test taking strategies to students with varying academic levels. In addition, the teacher will be responsible for the following: -Developing relationships with students, through in-person and email follow up, to ensure students are aware of trade openings and application requirements -Working collaboratively with Construction Trades Workforce Initiative to understand the curriculum and deliver the materials using best teaching practices to prepare students to take and pass the written and oral exams for the construction trades, and to understand the union trades and their unique entrance requirements. -Track and report student engagement and outcomes. This is a part-time/hourly position with flexibility built in for an individual to work in person, two evenings per week for a total of 3.5 hours per night. Each class will be 2.5 hours of instruction with one additional hour for preparation each night.

~ Bachelor's Degree ~ Must be certified to teach Adult Education subjects (*Designated Subjects: Adult Education Teaching Credential-ESBS OR Multiple-Subject Credential that includes Mathematics OR Single Subject Credential - Math, or an equivalent credential). ~ Proficiency in English required ~ Preferred: Experience teaching adult education and math courses preferred. An advocate of organized union labor.
