Custodial Supervisor Definition Under supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Operations; supervise, direct and participate in the custodial operations and activities for assigned district-wide custodial staff. Coordinate, prioritize, and schedule the cleaning and special projects of school buildings and facilities; train, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned custodial staff. Essential Duties 1. Plan, prioritize and assign all daily activities within the custodial department. 2. Determine needed equipment, materials, and supplies for custodial operations; requisition of various supplies, maintenance tools, and equipment according to established procedures; assure proper receipt of ordered materials. 3. Assist director in developing the annual custodial budget, monitor monthly custodial department expenditures and exercise sound fiscal judgment. 4. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work and participate in the selection of new personnel; recommend and participate in disciplinary action as needed. 5. Drive a vehicle and conduct inspections of district buildings and facilities; determine custodial needs; assign and inspect the work of night crews to assure completion of assigned duties. 6. Responsible for scheduling special cleaning of carpets, preventive maintenance and other crews during the summer periods. 7. Confers with school Head Custodians regarding the care and cleaning of district facilities. Assist in the scheduling of night custodial staff. Prepares and conducts classroom instruction regarding proper cleaning procedures, supervisory techniques and related issues. 8. Communicate with district personnel and departments to provide technical assistance, coordinate activities, and resolve issues, concerns, or questions regarding custodial and special projects work 9. Plan and supervise custodial equipment scheduled maintenance, and deliver supplies to school site as needed. 10. Evaluate and recommend purchases of new equipment. 11. Prepare a variety of records and reports. 12. Perform related duties as assigned. Desired Qualifications 1. Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment utilized in custodial maintenance, including appropriate safety precautions and procedures; principles and practices of training and providing work direction. 2. Ability to perform general custodial maintenance duties. 3. Ability to operate, service and make minor repairs on equipment. 4. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. 5. Ability to plan and organize work, meet schedules and timelines, and maintain records. 6. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. 7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Education, Experience and Training 1. Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work and 2 years journey-level experience in custodial work. Supervisor experience helpful. 2. Valid California Drivers License. Requires the ability to bend, twist, kneel, and stoop repeatedly. Job duties require repetitive arm and shoulder motions with moderate exertion. May lift light to medium weight materials or equipment up to 75 pounds. Requires visual acuity and depth perception to operate equipment and read safety materials.
