POSITION TITLE: Social Studies Teacher SUPERVISED BY: Principal FLSA STATUS: Full-time (5/5), exempt EFFECTIVE DATE: August 2024 COMPENSATION: $69,626 - $109,376 per year Position SummaryThis is a 5/5 FTE position, teaching a variety of History and Social Science courses, potentially including AP African American Studies, AP European History, AP World History, or AP United States Government and Politics. Responsibilities and Competencies Model Lasallian Vincentian charisms; Support SHC’s mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes; In collaboration with the Social Studies Department colleagues, and per department goals (see https://www.shcp.edu/academics/category/social-studies): Facilitate students’ critical thinking and historical literacy skills through historical and social inquiry and research; Develop students’ analytical and communication abilities through document analysis, evidence-based writing, projects, simulations, and discussion; Prepare future citizens to be curious about the world, to contribute to the common good, and to appreciate and respect diverse cultures and eras; Help students begin to understand global economics, international relations, the relationships between the environment and human cultures, and historical trends; Maintain an interactive and timely learning environment, in both physical and virtual learning spaces (Schoology); Communicate consistently with students, parents, and school personnel; Keep current and complete digital grading and attendance records; Collaborate in the school’s cocurricular activities, service learning, and retreat programs; Engage in professional development, especially our four-year New Faculty Professional Development and Support Program, becoming a reflective and growth-minded practitioner who integrates best and next teaching practices rooted in the SHC mission; Actively participate in SHC’s strategic initiatives to strengthen meaningful diversity,

Required Qualifications Undergraduate degree in Social Studies, History, Politics, Ethnic Studies or a related subject; Teaching credential or working towards it; single-subject teaching credential in Social Studies preferred; Experience working with high school students from diverse backgrounds; Ability to work independently and collaboratively to promote student learning. Desired Qualifications Master’s Degree; Experience teaching in a Catholic high school setting.
