Job Summary

The Poway Unified School District is looking for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (Mobility and Orientation Desired) who will be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program for students who are visually impaired and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in laws and policies. Ideal candidates are able to provide specialized instruction and services, make environmental adjustments at school, identify instructional areas in which students require specialized assistance, and provide instruction specific to the visually impaired. Requirements / Qualifications

This is for the 2024-2025 school year - the Special Education department may contact applicants directly for interviews. Applicants must submit all required documents to be considered, including a valid teaching credential. If you are an intern eligible applicant, please apply to this position if you have enrolled at a college or university or public school district Commission-approved intern program. CREDENTIALS REQUIRED: A valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential authorizing Visual Impairment or a Specialist Credential in Special Education with the Visually Handicapped authorization or Standard, or Restricted Teaching Credential with the Visually Handicapped authorization and a valid California Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential authorized in Orientation and Mobility (is desired) with EL authorization are required or an intern who is eligible to apply for an Education Specialist Intern Credential.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: All required documents MUST be scanned and attached prior to submitting an application for this position. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 1. Applicants must have an English Language Learners (CLAD credential) in order to be considered for the position. 2. Copy of a valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential authorizing teaching of Visual Impairment or a Specialist Credential in Special Education with the Visually Handicapped Authorization or Standard, or Restricted Teaching Credential with the Visually Handicapped authorization and a valid California Clinical or Rehabilitative Services Credential authorized in Orientation and Mobility (is desired) with EL authorization. 3. Copy of Transcript (Official transcripts are required upon hiring). 4. Current resume. 6. Letter of introduction, addressed to Charan Kirpalani, Director of Human Resources. 7. Three (3) letters of reference, signed/dated within the past 12 months. Applicants are encouraged to include at least one (1) letter of reference from a supervising or site administrator. Applicants who have never held a full-time position, are encouraged to have a letter of reference from a site administrator where they completed their student teaching. 8. For phone references, be sure to include the reference's most current cell phone number and email address. 9. EXPLANATION OF SIGNING BONUS PAYMENT: $6,000 signing bonus for a full time (100%) position and prorated for a less than 100% position. The $6,000 signing bonus will be paid out at $750 at the end of the first eight (8) semesters employed in this position. TEACHER INDUCTION: Poway Unified School District offers a teacher induction program to clear the CA preliminary credential to qualified individuals at no cost to the employee.
