ABOUT THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Vice President, Academic Affairs, the Dean, Career Education serves as the District-wide administrator primarily responsible for the facilitation, coordination, planning, and support for career and technical education.

Duties
DUTIES:
• Provides college-wide leadership and coordination in support of career education (CE).
• Provides leadership for development of a college-wide strategic plan for integrated CE programs and services.
• Directs the development, writing, coordination and administration of CE grants as appropriate.
• Serves on various planning committees and taskforces in support of the college planning structure.
• Develops and administers multiple unit budgets and monitors and tracks the appropriate use of federal, state and other college funds related to activities.
• Administers the preparation and timely submission of all annual and quarterly financial reports for CE and assists related faculty and staff in preparing accountability reports; and supervises the data collection required for the completion of various state reports.
• Serves as a resource in advisory committees for career and technical education and workforce training programs and services.
• Actively engages in curriculum design and development and serves as a representative on the Academic Senate Curriculum Committee and other committees as appropriate.
• Provides administrative support to the Career and Technical Education Committee of the Academic Senate and utilizes the committee to dialogue with CE faculty regarding CE concerns and initiatives.
• Assists in articulation of the instructional programs with K-12 and institutions of higher education.
• Understands and appreciates the mission of community colleges and be able to relate it to all constituencies.
• Advocate and promote quality instruction, equity initiatives and equity mindedness, and student success to meet the educational needs of students in a diverse community college environment.
• Understand and support the role of faculty in participatory governance.
• Develops school budgets and manage financial resources consistent with the district policy and sound financial management principles.
• Understands and promotes the role and use of technology in the instructional environment.
• Facilitate and encourage staff development activities within the school.
• Represents the College in career education and workforce programs to the State Chancellor's Office.
• Demonstrates an understanding of current ideas, trends, and practices pertaining to the areas of responsibility for this position.
• Serves on regional organizations, committees and boards related to the planning and coordination of CE programs at the college and proactively serves as a liaison to promote College CE programs and services.
• Solicits input related to industry needs and ensures for the on-going assessment of the viability of the College's CE programs.
• Directs, as appropriate, information gathering, and preparation of reports related to occupational/career education and oversees the preparation and maintenance of various records.
• Maintains appropriate fiscal and expenditure controls to ensure that federal, state, county, and community college law procedures and audit standards are observed.
• Makes presentations as necessary to various groups with the district, community and state.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to counsel, discipline and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a master's degree; AND One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment; ANDEvidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three to five years of extensive and progressively responsible experience in the development and administration of programs and services in an educational environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of regional business and industry workforce needs and emerging trends in the regional economy.
• Experience linking educational programs and services to the economic and workforce development needs of business and industry.
• Evidence of experience working with key regional business and industry groups.
• An understanding of strategic planning and evidence of systematic decision-making.
• Evidence of experience in the areas of leadership, organization, planning, development, staffing, budget management, evaluation, and supervision reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
• Commitment to the philosophy and value of institutional collaborative governance based upon a genuine sharing of responsibility.
• Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
