Job Summary
The Middle School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students in the middle school setting. The counselor works collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to provide counseling services, implement preventive programs, work with at-risk youth and promote a positive school climate conducive to learning and personal growth. Key Responsibilities: Foster a positive and inclusive middle school environment by collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators to support the overall well-being and personal development of students in alignment with academic and career goals. Provide brief individual counseling or group counseling sessions, addressing academic, social, and emotional needs. Develop and execute comprehensive workshops and informational sessions to equip middle school students with essential skills, knowledge, and confidence, ensuring a successful transition to high school; topics include course planning, study habits, time management, goal-setting, and effective communication to empower students for academic and social success. Guide middle school students through the course selection process, offering personalized counseling sessions to explore academic interests, set educational goals, and make informed decisions about appropriate courses, ensuring alignment with individual strengths, career aspirations, and high school requirements for a seamless transition and successful academic journey.
Requirements / Qualifications
A valid Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential with a specialization in School Counseling issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Completion of a supervised counseling internship or practicum as part of the credentialing process.

Previous experience working in a counseling or student support role, preferably in an educational setting.
Familiarity with the middle school age group and an understanding of the unique developmental needs and challenges faced by middle school students.
Experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions, providing academic and career guidance, and collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
Knowledge of counseling techniques, assessment tools, and intervention strategies to address academic, social-emotional, and behavioral issues.
Organizational and time-management skills to manage caseloads, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
Cultural competence and sensitivity to work with diverse student populations and address issues related to equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Strong organizational skills, adaptable to an evolving environment.
Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision.
Travel will be required on occasion for in-person events.
Flexible attitude and ability to adapt to new roles and responsibilities.
Capacity to work extended hours at a computer, demonstrating sustained focus and productivity.
Proficiency in using standard office software, such as Google Office Suite.
