SOLEDAD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Athletic Coach Classification: Certificated Salary Range: Certificated Salary Schedule Work Year: School Year DEFINITION Under the direction of the School Site Principal and Athletic Director, conducts the assigned interscholastic athletic program in conjunction with and in cooperation with, other school activities, recognizing that it is an integral part of the total school program. SUPERVISOR School Site Administrator and Athletic Director QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Essential Duties: • Abides by all regulations of the school, school district, the league, and the California Central Coast Sections (CCS), Monterey Section. (BP & AR 4127 (a),4227,4327) • Schedules and conducts practices and practice games which are compatible with school, leaguer, district and CCS regulations and which are in the best interest of the individual players, the entire team and the total program. • Meets all league commitments. • Assumes responsibility for the care and return of uniforms and equipment. • Supervises students during school time practice, after school practice and regular and special events. This includes the supervision of students before and after practice, in the shower and locker room, and in travel to and from events. • Responsible for preparing and maintaining a current roster of students participating in the athletic program for use by the administration in the determination of eligibility. • Works in individual students as well as the entire team in improvement of various skills associated with the program. • Maintains a model of sportsmanship for the students that complies with CIF/CCS Pursing Victory with Honor. • Represents the assigned athletic program to the press, community, the league and within the school. • Prepares statistics essential to showing participants their rate of growth. • When appropriate, attends coaches’ clinics pertinent to assigned athletic program in order to improve his or her coaching ability. • May work closely with assistant(s) in providing supervision and leadership. • May arrange for officials, equipment, facility reservations and readiness, score keeping, timing, and supervision for home scheduled event. • Monitors academic progress of students to ensure eligibility of students. • Prepares and communicates annual schedule with parents, students, staff, and administration. • Monitor fundraising activities of student athletes. • Coordinate transportation for athletic competitions of team. • May arrange for transportation and any other administrative details for an “away” scheduled event. • May build, maintain and control the budget in conjunction with the Athletic Director and for the A.S.B. Advisor assigned athletic program(s). • May coordinate assigned athletic program and articulate with other coaches as appropriate. Other Duties • Performs other duties as assigned by the Site Administrator. • Assist at other home sporting events designated by Athletic Director. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, and business machines; vision sufficient to read printed materials, hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distances on the telephone an addressing groups; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and reach overhead; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school site-to site),drive an automobile, and respond to emergency situations; physical strength sufficient to lift 25 pounds alone or more with a two person lift; physical stamina sufficient to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience • High School Diploma or equivalent • Posses an appropriate California operator’s license and the availability of an automobile with the state minimum insurance coverage. • CIF Certified • CPR/First Aid Certified • Teaching Credential or AB 1025 Clearance for Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches Ability to • Develop good rapport with any number of individuals and groups; with the community as a whole and particularly with spectators and booster organizations; with media representatives; with game officials; and with the corresponding coaches of the league and district of this the school is a part. • Inspire and motivate students in a positive manner that complies with Board Policy and CCS Code of Ethical Conduct. • Interact with and maintain a cooperative relationship with students, parents and staff. • Meet schedules and timelines. • Work independently with appropriate direction. • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
