Job Summary

The Governing Board of the Travis Unified School District, Fairfield, California, is seeking a highly qualified, fully certified, educational leader to serve as Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2024. McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Governing Board in identifying and screening the candidates. Enrollment: 5,400 Location: 47 miles northeast of San Francisco

Requirements / Qualifications

The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Governing Board seeks a Superintendent who possesses the following leadership and personal qualities. • Proven experience in bond management and a keen ability to maximize financial resources for the district's benefit. • Preference for candidates with residency in or strong ties to the TUSD community. • Demonstrated understanding of the National Association of Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS) and experience working within military-impacted districts. • Decisive leadership qualities, with the courage to stand firm on beliefs and make tough decisions when necessary. • Experience in managing safety issues, including strategies to combat challenges such as fentanyl exposure and school shootings. • A record of innovative and effective staff management, willing to nurture and work closely with an existing team of competent professionals. • Experience in restructuring initiatives is beneficial but not mandatory. • Strong communication skills, capable of articulating the needs and achievements of teachers and students alike. • Hands-on teaching experience, with a track record of supporting teachers and engaging in education advocacy. Qualifications: • Advanced degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field. • Significant experience in educational administration, preferably with exposure to districts similar to TUSD. • Familiarity with current educational technologies and a commitment to ongoing professional development in this area. • Experience in dealing with federal funding mechanisms and an ability to navigate beyond traditional funding sources to benefit the district.
