Job Summary

Under direction, to organize and oversee assigned Student Support Services programs for the County Office of Education; to serve as a liaison with community agencies, parents, school districts and business partners relative to Student Support Services programs; and to provide highly responsible support to the Manager of Student Support Services. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in social services or a related field. Experience: Three years of experience in private, non-profit, state or federally funded programs including experience in working with community groups in planning and implementing student support services activities and programs. Supervisory and grant writing experience desired. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and appropriate vehicle operation insurance preferred. Qualification Requirements: To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed in the job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Application Procedures: Applicants must submit a completed application and are encouraged to attach a résumé to the application material. Qualified applicants will be invited to a written examination (50%). Those passing the written examination will be invited to an oral examination covering the knowledge and skills required (50%). An eligibility list will be established and the top three ranks of candidates will be interviewed for final consideration and appointment. The eligibility list established will remain in effect for a period of six (6) months unless it no longer exists due to an insufficient number of available candidates. If an applicant needs reasonable accommodation, we must be informed prior to the administration of the test. If selected, fingerprinting is required. You will need to supply our office with a negative tuberculosis test clearance. The certificate is good for a four-year period. You can have the test done through the Santa Cruz Health Department, Doctors on Duty Clinic or by calling a physician or a clinic of your choice.

Employees have a choice between various medical plans. Each plan may have an employee premium contribution amount for which the employee can utilize a tax sheltered Section 125 Plan. Retirement benefits are accrued through the Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS). CalPERS members are required to pay their portion of the retirement plan. The employee also receives long-term disability insurance and life insurance. Degree stipend is prorated based upon full time equivalent. Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Student Support Services, this position will serve as the support for Community Schools planning and implementation in Santa Cruz County. This position will be responsible for providing training and technical assistance for Community School staff, as well as implementing the four pillars of the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP): Student Services, Extended Learning, Family Engagement, and Shared Leadership. They will oversee the implementation of an equitable student support system from preschool to graduation, integrate services like school climate improvement, attendance tracking, and dropout prevention. Additionally, they will write necessary reports for grant funding and monitor progress, recommend interventions as needed, and participate in planning and implementing programs and policies for educational equity. This position will provide technical support for the implementation of community school initiatives, including research, development, and coordination. They will lead grants or grant projects related to community schools, ensure compliance with grant They will also assist in identifying and coordinating partnerships for social services such as county-level governmental agencies, non-profit and community-based organizations, and other external partners, as well.
