Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

The Assistant Superintendent directly reports to the Board and is responsible for all charter school operations and instruction. This position oversees the day-to-day operation, fiscal responsibility, and executing the key performance indicators that are set out by the Board. Additionally, this position is responsible for working with all school vendors selected by the Board to assure overall success of the school.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following: *

  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with vendors, teachers, education staff, district personnel, and community-based organizations.
  • Analyze and disaggregate data from student enrollment trends and reports data to the board.
  • Project and manage annual revenue for charter school.
  • Initiates, schedules, and performs in-service training for new educational programs, instructional materials, and compliance.
  • Creates and Implements school policy as required by educational code and authorizers.
  • Manages relationships with outside vendors in conjunction and as directed by the board.
  • Works with the state to attain W.A.S.C. Accreditation and regularly monitors the progress of action plans.
  • Supervises school communication with parents, district, and county offices. Serves as the primary contact for all district relations.
  • Serves on the Instructional Leadership Team to drive improvement and progress of the educational program.
  • Ensures all schools are implementing and receiving the same opportunities in regards to programs for students and staff.
  • Monitors and supports principals and their assigned areas to ensure centers and programs are being maximized.
  • Creatively seeks ways to increase charter revenue and control expenses. Works with outside vendors in school business and back office service providers
  • Performs other administrative functions and duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for facilities. Manages personnel budgets and new site locations and build-outs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to train, direct, and delegate responsibility to staff.
  • Ability to analyze and present data to drive instruction and progress of academic program.
  • Ability to cooperatively collaborate with other departments or administrative staff in a timely, responsive manner to meet business needs and reach company goals.
  • Ability to independently take initiative and work efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment in a fast-paced, multitasked environment with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills while maintaining diplomacy, courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and database management.
  • Excellent managerial, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Strong understanding of business analytics, budget analysis, and school growth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:

  • Strong Leadership skills. Must be able to bring people together, grow teams, and meet strategic objectives.
  • Teaching experience and California Teaching Credential.
  • Excellent knowledge of educational programs.
  • Knowledge of CDE, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Experience with independent study programs.

Education and Experience:

  • Ed.D in Education or MBA preferred.
  • Admin credential required.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in school administration. Superintendent experience in a small district is preferred.
  • Excellent academic focus.
  • Creativity and innovation necessary.
