CLASS TITLE: MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST CLASSIFIED PROFESSIONAL SERVICE BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education/Student Services, the Mental Health Specialist provides mental health services including counseling, consultation, treatment, and case management for individuals and families, and performs related duties as required. Assist with program planning, assessment, feedback, supervision, mentoring, record keeping, and writing reports. Mental health services may be provided at district sites, in student homes, and/or in the community.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education/Student Services, the Mental Health Specialist provides mental health services including counseling, consultation, treatment and case management for individuals and families, and performs related duties as required. Assist with program planning, assessment, feedback, supervision, mentoring, record keeping and writing reports. Mental health services may be provided at district sites, in student homes, and/or in the community. Education and Experience: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to a Master’s Degree in psychology, mental health counseling, or social work and two-years’ experience in counseling and crisis intervention with children, adolescents, and their families. Licenses and Other Requirements: Possession of a valid California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist or Clinical Social Worker is required. A valid Class C Driver’s License and evidence of appropriate insurance are required. The employee will be required to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate within the first 6 months of employment. Environment: • Indoor office, classroom, and family home Physical Demands: • Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents and display screens • Hear normal range conversation (approximately 60 decibels • Sit for sustained periods of time, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk up and down slopes, stairs, steps, and ramp • Sustain moderate physical effort for 8 hours • Lift, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 50 or more pounds occasionally • Demonstrate manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard
