San Benito High School Title: Food Service Assistant Definition/Basic Function: Under supervision, to assist in the quantity preparation and serving of food on campus and in the school cafeteria; to assist in maintaining food services facilities in a clean and sanitary condition; follow standard safety procedures, and to do related work as required. Directly Responsible to: Food Service Supervisor Examples of Duties/ Essential Functions: 1. Assists in the preparation of vegetables, fruits and other foods for cooking, 2. Prepares a variety of salads, 3. Performs routine cooking tasks such as preparation of items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, burritos, and French fries, 4. Packs box lunches, sells lunches, snacks, soft drinks and other food items and counts money, with the use of computerized terminals, 5. Cleans and stores dishes, utensils, and other equipment, 6. Receives and stores foods and supplies, 7. Cleans work areas and disposes of refuse, 8. Washes and prepares an assortment of hot and cold vegetables, 9. Sets out coffee for meetings, 10. Makes change, run daily sales report with use of computerized cash machine, 11. Deep fries a variety of items, 12. Slices meats and prepares a variety of sandwiches, 13. Heat and serve prepared foods, 14. Stock snack bar daily and restores merchandise at close of day, 15. Cleans dining areas, 16. Washes dishes and trays, 17. Trains student helpers, 18. Stocking and managing inventory for vending machines. Required Qualifications: Knowledge of: o Training, Experience and Educational Requirements: o Preferably some experience working in a quantity food operation o Or any combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities. o High school diploma Certificates/Licenses: o Serve – Safe Certification within one year of employment is encouraged Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of: o Basic preparation utensils and equipment, o Methods of cleaning and preparing vegetables, fruits and other foods for cooking, o Sanitary and safety requirements for food preparation. Ability to: o Work under time pressure, o Prepare meats and vegetables for cooking, o Operate food service equipment and appliances, o Receive money and make change while serving customers, o Understand and carry out oral and written instruction, o Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Performance Expectations: The employee is expected to be familiar with and to meet the performance expectations reflected in his or her Performance Report. Failure to adequately do so will constitute grounds for disciplinary action. Physical Demands of Position: The following essential physical requirements: 1. Seldom = Less than 25% 2. Occasional = 25 – 50% 3. Often = 51-75 % 4. Very Frequent = 76 % 1. Ability to stand, sit, walk, twist, stoop, crouch, climb, kneel, bend over, grasp, reach overhead, push, pull, lift, and to carry 0 to 40 pounds at above head height. (4) 2.
