COORDINATOR-SPECIAL EDUCATION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, coordinate and direct Special Education Services; formulate programs and policies; supervise professional and management staff directly; direct budget preparation and administration; interpret federal and State laws and regulations.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, coordinate and direct the programs, projects, activities, services and operations of the Special Education function; assure proper staffing and allocate personnel and resources to optimize departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
- Hire, train, prioritize and assign work and supervise professional, management, technical and clerical staff; evaluate the performance of assigned staff; recommend promotions, transfers, reassignments, terminations and disciplinary actions.
- Provide overall direction and technical expertise, information and assistance to management, students, parents, specialists, outside agencies and other clients regarding Special Education matters including the Preschool program; advise the administrators of unusual trends.
- Assist in the development, monitoring, and control of the department's annual budget
- Manage and direct facilities usage; develop facilities plans and allocate space to programs in accordance with program guidelines; drive to sites periodically to review programs and space allocations.
- Assure program compliance with federal and State laws and regulations.
- Negotiate and monitor transportation services contracts for students with disabilities.
- Evaluate student referrals, assign referrals to school sites and assure timely placement into programs.
- Direct and participate in the formulation and implementation of Special Education Department policies, procedures and projects; plan, organize and implement short- and long-term programs and activities designed to develop and promote operations and services.
- Provide for the proper maintenance of accurate and complete student records and prepare required federal, State and SELPA pupil counts and other required reports.
- Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of other narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to Special Education programs and services.
- Manage the coordination of agreements with other districts and agencies working with the Special Education programs.
- Represent the Department at meetings and other activities; develop and deliver oral and written reports, recommendations and other presentations to committees, agencies, boards and others.
- Communicate with administrators and school district personnel to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.
- Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
- Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative, statistical and financial reports and files.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid administrative services credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and one or more of the following credentials: any teaching credential, school psychology credential, speech and language specialist credential.
- A minimum of three (3) years professional experience in one or more of the following roles: Teacher, psychologist, speech therapist, pupil personnel services worker, and school administrator.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Advanced degree Preferred: Masters or Doctorate
Management Salary Schedule
Work Year: 210 days
