BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of severely handicapped students in a classroom; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; assist students in developing various self-help, social and community skills.

SCOE Substitute Para Educator ESY Application Copy of SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Test Certificate (Applicants that meet the Minimum Requirements and did not submit a copy of the SCOE Para Educator Proficiency Test or equivalent will receive an e-mail invitation to attend the testing) OR one of the following: ESSA/NCLB test certificate, CBEST or transcripts showing date AA Degree or higher was awarded. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience working with children and/or individuals with disabilities preferred. All VOLUNTEER work must be stated in DETAIL in the "Record of Work Experience" section of the application. ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS: The following documents are NOT required at the time of application but will be required of the selected applicant prior to employment: • Department of Justice Fingerprint clearance • Tuberculosis Skin Test clearance • Lift test/drug screen clearance * Submitting an application means you are available to work the full term of the Extended School Year.

TYPES OF CLASSES: Autism, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Emotionally Disturbed, Life Skills, Multiply Handicapped, Physically Handicapped, Severely Handicapped, Special Day Class, Transitions, 1:1 Assignment (Working with a specific student). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting light-medium weighted objects. Dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate specialized apparatus and standard office and classroom equipment. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Sitting to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities. Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. HAZARDS: Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals. Exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases. Must be at least 18 years of age. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the new CALPERS requirements, retirees may not substitute for the first 180 days after their retirement date. APPLICANTS WHO SUCCESSFULLY PASS THE SCREENING AND TESTING PROCESS WILL BE PROCESSED FOR HIRING.
