POSITION TITLE: DRIVER/CUSTODIAN – FOOD SERVICE
CLASS DEFINITION:
Positions within this class are characterized by having as their primary assignment loading and unloading stock and supplies, driving delivery vehicles of various sizes and making deliveries within set schedules under the specific direction of the supervisor assigned. These positions may have more than one supervisor depending upon the program or programs served, or the time of year. Positions within this class have specific routines, which must be followed in addition to having other tasks to perform, which may vary from day to day or seasonally. Levels within this class are differentiated by virtue of the degree of primarily delivery duties, which are required in relation to other associated duties such as custodial, warehouse, clerical and light maintenance work.
POSITION DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to drive heavy duty delivery vehicles; to deliver food service and warehouse supplies; to provide custodial services in food service facilities; to perform manual, clerical and semi-skilled duties involving food service, warehouse and maintenance programs, and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• Load and unload delivery vehicles
• Operate a fork-lift
• Drive a two-axle delivery truck from Central Kitchen and Warehouse to various schools
• Deliver food service carts and warehouse supplies
• Receive supplies at Central Kitchen and warehouse
• Make minor repairs and maintain vehicles and other equipment
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and shop areas
• Assist in office procedures: filing, answering phones
• Assist in warehouse management procedures
• Assist in maintenance and grounds work
• Participate in custodial in-services
• Perform daily cleaning of kitchen facilities as directed
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Education and Experience - Any combination equivalent to completion of high school and one year experience in truck or bus driving or delivery work.
Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of the California Motor Vehicle Code; ability to load, unload and carry heavy objects; ability to repair and maintain equipment; knowledge of the basic operations, tools and terms used in custodial, building and grounds maintenance; ability to perform minor clerical duties; follow oral and written directions and work cooperatively with others; ability to work with and around children; ability to relate well to parents and other adults.
Licenses and Other Requirements: Valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
___ Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
___ Able to conduct verbal conversation in English and other designated languages
___ Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
___ Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, walk
___ Able to stand in one space for sustained periods
___ Able to sit for sustained periods of time
___ Able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally
___ Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 300 pounds
___ Able to sustain strenuous manual labor for 8 hours
___ Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation
___ Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adduction
___ Able to exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extension
___ Able to exhibit full range of motion for back flexion
___ Able to exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extension
___ Able to exhibit full range of motion for knee flexion
___ Able to work in a wide range of temperatures.
___ Able to work at various elevated heights in a safe and effective manner.
___ Able to work with chemical agents in a safe and effective manner without allergic reaction.
___ Able to exhibit manual dexterity necessary to perform fine maintenance procedures and operate both manual and power hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
