DUTIES: Under the direction of the designated administrator/supervisor completes a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, cleaning the assigned site, areas and grounds; safeguards property, directs and assists visitors, inspects building and grounds for fire, sanitary and safety hazards; Provides services required for the assigned programs; responsible for the opening and/or closing of the building as appropriate each day; keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times; maintains clean windows inside and outside as necessary; safeguards district property and has a primary responsibility for security; reports immediately to the site administrator any damage to property or needed repairs of district property; assists in taking annual inventory of custodian supplies and equipment; moves furniture, equipment, and supplies within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal/supervisor; makes minor facility repairs and replaces ceiling lamps; works cooperatively with others; performs other job related duties as may be assigned. Custodian position is subject to day/night shift.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from the eighth grade or equivalent; must possess a minimum of two years of experience in custodial work and have experience with diverse student and community populations. Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment; relevant health and safety laws; student behavior management strategies and techniques; effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms; consistently follow assigned schedule and timelines; manage and use time effectively. Must be able to make sound decisions within the framework of established policies and procedures; schedule, inspect and assist in the work of others; demonstrate physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. As per Teamsters Negotiated Agreement Article 10.1.1.2 for bargaining unit members, transfers and advancements, the selection criteria shall be training, skills, and previous experience. If training skills and previous experience are equal, seniority will be the determining factor.
