CLASS TITLE: BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION THERAPIST BASIC FUNCTION: Under supervision, implements behavior modification interventions for students in a school or a home setting. Supports the training and learning activities of children experiencing special needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of behavior management plans for students. E Assists school staff in the implementation of intervention strategies to follow specified behavior management plans. E Provides information to supervisor concerning student progress, orally and/or through accurate maintenance of student records. Participates in training sessions and attends in-service training sessions. Attends IEP meetings as needed. Using positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: AA degree or 30 units of college level coursework in child development, special education, Or a related field. Experience working with students with behavioral plans and behavior challenges. First Aid Recommended. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Students with disabilities. Developmental, emotional, and behavioral management strategies and techniques Positive verbal and physical behavioral intervention techniques Routine record keeping techniques Ability to: Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups with specialized needs. Appropriately manage student behavior and guide students toward acceptable social behaviors. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Maintain confidentiality of student records and communications. Meet schedules and deadlines. Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies as directed by supervisor. Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff. Implement training methods, techniques, and materials to be used in behavioral interventions with students. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Classroom environment, subject to interruptions; subject to driving to various locations to conduct work. The noise level in the environment may range from quiet to loud, depending upon activity. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and talk, or listen. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may have to deal with students who display aggressive behavior to self and others. LICENSE: Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.
