Position Title: Teacher, Elementary
Department: Instruction
Reports To: Superintendent/Principal
Definition: Under direction, teach and instruct pupils in a multi-grade, self-contained classroom in academic, social, behavioral, and other educational skill areas; plan, develop, organize, and conduct a comprehensive educational program for upper elementary level pupils; assist upper elementary level pupils in making appropriate life style adjustments, and in the determination of career and vocational choices; and to do other related functions as required.
Qualifications:
A. California Multiple Subjects Credential with an English Learner Authorization
B. Education – Bachelor’s Degree
C. NCLB compliant
General Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Superintendent/Principal, the classroom teacher shall develop in the student the skills, knowledge, concepts, generalizations, principles, appreciation and attitudes that are necessary to meet district goals and performance objectives of the course and state standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Classroom
Individual student needs will be assessed.
Goals and objectives shall be established that address student needs.
Lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids will be developed.
Basic attendance accounting and grade reporting will be performed.
Classroom environment:
Classroom environment conducive to learning will be maintained.
Good citizenship and communication skills will be encouraged.
All courses will be taught within the framework of the performance objectives approved by the District.
Methods:
Strategies and behaviors will be flexible and adjusted to the situation and student needs.
Respect for the student will be demonstrated.
Evaluation:
The student’s progress in the subject area will be evaluated.
The student will be made aware of the procedure used in the evaluation of his/her progress.
Student feedback to evaluate effectiveness of instruction will be utilized.
A. Curriculum and Instruction
A positive role will be established in the development and evaluation of the subject-areas curriculum. Professional competency in the subject area will be maintained.
B. Interpersonal Relations
Cooperative efforts in working with staff toward the resolution of mutual concerns will be demonstrated. Positive interaction with students, support staff, colleagues, parents, community and private organizations will be established.
C. Related Duties
Professional responsibility to support and supervise co-curricular activities will be acknowledged. Participation in departmental functions, such as encouraging department- related student activities/organizations, completing inventories, maintaining student records, and requisitioning supplies and materials, will be effectively provided.
The distribution, instruction in the appropriate use and collection of nonconsumable supplies, materials, and equipment will be made with the proper notification when damages occur. Other related duties as assigned will be performed. Other duties may include, but not limited to, 8th grade graduation activities, fieldtrips and fundraisers.
D. State Laws and District Policies/Regulations
The teacher will uphold the state laws, district polices/regulations, and local school regulations adopted to meet state and district policies and standards.

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Teaching Multiple Subject Certificate with CLAD, BCLAD OR SADAI.
Knowledge of: Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of upper level elementary level pupils; academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of upper elementary level pupils; educational curriculum and instruction goals and objectives, and educational trends and research findings pertaining to upper elementary programming; behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures; socio-economic and cultural background differences of the school population.
Ability to:
Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program for pupils at the upper elementary level; provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for pupils from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds; effectively assess the instructional and educational needs of pupils and design, develop and implements sound instructional and educational programs; provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment; perform research and development activities pertaining to curriculum and
instructional programs and innovative and creative pilot projects designed to enhance pupil educational opportunities and experiences; comply with the District’s customer service standards, as outlined in Board Policy.
Experience:
Successful completion of student teaching at a recognized college or university or two years of regular full time upper elementary level teaching experience.
