Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, perform routine custodial duties at a designated school or District site during an assigned shift; maintain buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly, safe and secure condition. THE CANDIDATE: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and ability to perform the essential duties of the position. Some experience performing a variety of routine custodial duties highly desirable. THE DETAILS: TESTING INFORMATION The examination process may be comprised of a multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description. All applicants are invited to take the practice test, but not required. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed instructions to schedule the written exam. Notifications will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. A photo ID is required for admittance to the exam. Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the written examination. Qualified applicants for the position will be notified by email about the practice exam and how to proceed in the testing process. Examination notifications will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. OPTIONAL Step: Practice test is offered, but not required or scored. We will review testing process; take a practice test which will include methods & materials, work schedule, and following written instructions. We will then review the answers together. The practice test is scheduled on March 14, 2024. A picture ID is required for admittance to the practice test. Please arrive 15 minutes early as we close the doors to the testing room on time, and allow 1 hour for the practice test. Step 2: Written Examination (weighted 50%) scheduled on March 15, 2024. Applicants will be tested on methods, practices & procedures, following written instructions, and safety. Applicants must pass the written examination to move forward to the qualifications appraisal interviews. Due to the anticipated number of applicants, only those with the highest scores on the written exam may be invited to the qualifications appraisal interview. Step 3: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 50%) tentatively scheduled March 21, 2024. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list. ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION New Hires – Initial Salary Placement The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria: Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification) Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period. Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years. Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations. Education Incentives All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree which is related to their classification and is above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.
