The Long Beach Community College District is seeking qualified individuals for an opportunity as a Library Assistant. Under supervision, this incumbent will provide quality customer service to faculty, staff, and students at the Public Services Desks at both campus libraries, explain library policies and procedures to patrons, assist with the processing and shelving of library material, perform a variety of Library circulation and technical services functions, and perform related duties as assigned. This incumbent must have knowledge of terminology and basic principles related to paraprofessional work in a community college or public library. Additionally, the incumbent must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, understand and follow written and oral work instructions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with District management, staff, faculty, students, the public, and others encountered in the course of work.
The ideal candidate will have graduated high school or G.E.D. equivalent, and three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Duties
GENERAL PURPOSEUnder supervision, performs a variety of routine administrative duties in support of Library circulation, cataloging and periodical functions; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Library Assistant is the entry-level class in the non-professional library class series. Incumbents perform routine library support services. Library Assistant is distinguished from Library Technician I in that an incumbent in the latter class is responsible for performing specialized clerical and administrative support duties related to the ordering, purchasing and processing of new and donated books, periodicals and other materials, requiring a greater knowledge of library policies, rules and procedures. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:Education,TrainingandExperience:Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy. Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidatequalifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitiveamongst the applicant pool to proceed.

• If you participate in and fail any examination segment, you must wait a period of 90 days (~3 months) to test again for the same classification.
Selection Process: The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:
• screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience

• in-person or online:
• written examination(s)
• qualifications appraisal oral examination
• performance examination
• technical oral examination
(the above will be scored on a job-related basis)
Test parts are determined by the size and competitiveness of the candidate pool.Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.
