Hemet Unified School District is one of the largest geographic areas of any district in California. It covers over 650 square miles of very diverse topography; from valley flatlands to foothills to mountains. It serves a growing community with a current enrollment of nearly 21,000 students. Building improvement capability at this scale requires the development of a learning environment that allows for (1) close collaboration between district and site-based staff who are closest to the work of educating students (2) ongoing learning and application of improvement methodologies on problems that occur in the day-to-day work at the district and sites (3) iterative design and testing cycles of changes to improve district-wide outcomes.
