COMPUTER NETWORK SPECIALIST
DEFINITION:
Responsible for the installation, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of the district computer network. Adjusts, monitors, and controls the network to ensure smooth and continuous operation of all network systems. Installs and maintains a variety of computer network devices including computers, servers, printers, hubs, routers and peripheral devices. Initiates a variety of network system processes including data replication, data back ups, virus protection, system and application software installation, and monitors system security. Interfaces with users regarding network system operations, network printing, system security and system troubleshooting. The Specialist must have the ability to initiate and follow written and oral instructions of a technical and complex nature; organize and schedule jobs; update and document network system procedures; interface with users at various levels of expertise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Abilities:
An understanding of network systems with emphasis on Microsoft NT servers, Macintosh servers, PC/Mac workstations and Internet technology is essential. The Specialist will have experience in server installation and setup and illustrate a complete understanding of the principles of networking including network topology, network protocols, network bridging and routing. Ability to analyze problems to determine the source and work out efficient solutions.
Experience and Education:
Three years experience in the installation, operation and maintenance of computer networks with emphasis on NT, Novell, and Internet technologies. Two years experience in the installation of hubs and routers with good general aptitude and experience in a variety of network topologies, protocols, operating systems, and configurations. Equivalent to completion of an AA degree in Computer Science.
