10-Month Tenure Track Position

COMPENSATION:

Initial salary placement ranges from $55,714 to $87,247, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $116,888. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Working with students to develop comprehensive individualized education program plans. E

Assisting in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as orientation, assessment, and progress follow-up. E

Participating in developing and implementing strategies and materials to increase student retention and transfer rates. E

Selecting and interpreting educational, vocational and personal assessment instruments. E

Participating in the articulation process. E

Facilitating group counseling sessions. E

Presenting workshops on a variety of topics. E

Teaching guidance classes in career planning, re-entry, and academic success. E

Outreach/liaison to local high schools and community agencies. E

Effectively using current information technologies. E

Participating in program and curriculum development. E

Counseling/advising students, and performing related duties as assigned. E

Complying with all Title 5 program requirements and District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties. E

Participating in staff development activities. E

Serving on area and college wide committees as necessary to support and enrich college programs, activities, and initiatives. E

Demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues. E

Promoting the success of a diverse student population through the use of effective counseling/advisement methods, models, and strategies and through the use of effective teaching methodologies. E

Participating in the assessments of related service area outcomes and student learning outcomes. E

Victor Valley College is implementing Guided Pathways: The role of this position will be to provide case-management and intentional interventions as part of a Student Success Team for an assigned pathway. E

Counsel students in the appropriate academic and vocational aspects of their pathway; provide academic advising and counseling to an identified caseload. E

Goals for Guided Pathways are to create a more engaging experience for students, close the achievement gap, and ensure increased student success. E

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.

(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous experience working with Community College students

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Knowledge of Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS)

• Knowledge of grant-funded processes, documentation and compliance

ABILITY TO:

• Ability to read, write and speak Spanish

• Ability to work in partnership with community-based organizations and K-12 systems

• Ability to create and manage digital or media content
