HAYWARD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: SYSTEMS ANALYST BASIC FUNCTION: Under general supervision of the Director-Technology and Information Systems, the Systems Analyst facilitates the computerization, management and distribution of data used for decision-making and in the daily operation of schools and departments. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Evaluate user needs, analyze administrative activities and perform feasibility studies to determine appropriate resolution of users’ needs and operating problems. Serve as a technical resource and lead major complex programming projects with considerable independence. De-bug production errors reported by users and make appropriate corrections. Work closely with operations staff to maximize computer use. Write and test computer programs. Maintain continuing contact with users to assure implementation and maintenance of system. Design and develop report specifications. Develop and implement training for district and school staff on issues related to technology. Attend meetings, workshops and conference related to technology matters. OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties, related to the job, as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Capabilities of computer systems and related equipment. Operations and utilization of computer systems and related equipment. Systems and procedures analysis and development. Applicable computer languages for California school districts and software evaluation. Requirements and restrictions of data base concepts. Management of information systems. ABILITY TO: Learn and use new program languages and operating systems. Perform system analysis activities including the development of cost efficient, auditable, and secure systems. Design forms, develop test techniques and test computer programs and systems. Assist users in determining their needs. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Trouble shoot and solve problems quickly and accurately. Analyze complex problems, identify solutions and recommend plans to solve problems. Interface and communicate with schools and district departments in order to provide service. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field. Three years’ experience in a school district or five years with a public agency or private organization of similar size and scope to Hayward Unified School District. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Class C driver’s license and a safe driving record. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Constant interruptions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Seeing to read a variety of materials. Sitting for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials.
