Classroom and Professional Responsibility

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times. Be alert to the needs of children as individuals and as a group.
  • Work with the teaching team to set up and maintain the classroom. Keep classroom shelves, counters, storage areas, and bathrooms orderly and free of clutter.
  • Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
  • Communicate with colleagues and administration professionally and respectfully.
  • Always keep developmentally appropriate practice in mind when planning for and communicating with children and families.
  • Represent Acton Academy Silicon Valley and the preschool professionally and positively on campus and off.
  • Be familiar with and follow all Preschool policies detailed in the employee and Parent Handbook.
  • Keep preschool administration informed of any special needs or concerns about individual children.
  • Fill out all required paperwork promptly. This includes but is not limited to accident reports, incident reports, and weekly curriculum calendars.
  • Communicate frequently with parents professionally and respectfully. Areas of concern about children should be discussed with a co-teacher, associate teacher, and director but communicated to the parent by a teacher.
Curriculum Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement an enriching curriculum for children as individuals and as a group.
  • Learn the Kimochis curriculum and weave its social language into daily communication with children.
  • Work with a co-teacher/teacher’s aide, if applicable.
  • Plan and implement activities and projects that support multi-culture, holidays, and values.
  • Maintain snack menus, prepare daily snacks for children, and sit with them while they eat.
  • Conduct two individual parent/teacher conferences twice per year with each family.
  • Attend Back-to-School Night and school events and prepare to speak about AASV preschool’s philosophy, goals, and curriculum.
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-service training, classroom set-up/clean-up days, and team curriculum planning meetings.
  • Contribute to monthly parent newsletters.

Requirements / Qualifications

Commission on Teacher Credentialing: • Child Development Associate Teacher Permit; OR • Child Development Teacher Permit; OR • Child Development Master Teacher Permit. Required Documents: 1. Live scan fingerprints and California clearance or a criminal record exemption as required by law or Department regulations or request a transfer of a criminal record clearance or request and be approved. 2. Health screening (signed by a doctor) 3. Negative TB test within the last year Additional required certifications (may be obtained after employment): 1. 15 hours of health and safety training, which includes the following components: • Current pediatric first aid/pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR/first aide) card issued either by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association or by a training program that the Emergency Medical Services have approved. • Complete Preventative H and Safety in the Child Care Setting. Health practices courses or courses that include instruction in the recognition, management, and prevention of infectious diseases, including immunizations and prevention of childhood injuries, lead poisoning, and at least one hour of childhood nutrition training as part of the preventive health practices course or courses. 2. CCLD requires certification of Abuse Mandated Reporter Training. This three-hour training can be completed on the web at https://mandatedreporterca.com.
