ABOUT THE POSITIONLong Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenured EOPS Counselor commencing with the fall 2024 semester. The primary assignment involves providing personal, career, and academic counseling to Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS), Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE), and NextUp students. The Counselor is expected to provide support for students through their life cycle at the college including the areas of connection, entry, progress and completion. Interventions shall include activities such as supporting the matriculation process, First Year Experience, classroom presentations, outreach activities, evening assignments, early alert, completion efforts, and providing referrals for students to other services and agencies. The counselor will also provide leadership in areas of student intervention strategies, working with academically challenged students, and teaching counseling, career, and orientation courses. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, and college committees, and assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines and the leveraging of student support resources; and participation in ongoing professional development. This assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career developments, or the equivalent

AND

• Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages OR
• Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling fieldwork courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages;

AND

• Have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages;

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Community college counseling experience.
• Recent professional experience in helping students to deal with personal/psychological problems.
• Evidence of previous teaching experience, especially at the community college level.
• Evidence of an ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of academic skills.
• Evidence of an ability to work with computers, multimedia, and other technologies that are utilized in providing high-quality classroom and lab instruction.
• Evidence of an ability to conduct various academic, career and job-related workshops and presentations.
• Evidence of an ability to use and analyze various career assessments and guide students.
• Evidence of knowledge in the use of various academic and career related programs to assist students in their academic or career goals.
• Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively in department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Long Beach City College.
