An annual doctoral stipend of $4,591 is granted to eligible faculty.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY: This full-time, tenure track instructor will enjoy a 185-Day work schedule. The position begins on Monday, August 19, 2024 pending Governing Board ratification. Classes may be in a traditional "in class" setting, online, or hybrid format scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and at various campus locations, including days, evenings, and/or weekends.

Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, the Mental Health Counselor in-Student Health Services (SHS) provides intake, evaluation and brief therapy, personal counseling; crisis intervention, and case management. This position will be a college resource on issues of mental health, in classroom settings, forums, committees, with learning communities, or other college bodies. This counselor may also serve as a rotating representative on the Student Support and Care Team and other college committees or work groups. In addition, this position serves as a college representative and a referral resource in the local mental health community.

About the Department: Student Health Services provides short term mental health counseling for students with the goal of maximizing their college success. In addition, crisis intervention services are made available to students on an emergency basis. Students may request personal counseling services by self-referral or by academic counseling, instructional faculty or staff. Group, classroom, and community health programs in mental health promotion and illness prevention are provided for the entire Cabrillo community. Ultimately, personal counseling services within Student Health Services are targeted to help students cope with the stressors that are affecting their academic, career, or personal goals to improve student well-being and retention.

Examples of Duties

• Provide short term personal counseling and support to students through direct contact, individually and/or in groups. Assignment may include evening and/or off-campus assignments
• Support student adjustment to college and other developmental issues
• Crisis intervention, evaluation, and referral to campus and community counselors and other mental health resources as needed
• Facilitate and lead student or faculty groups on issues or topics of common interest
• Initiate and maintain confidential, complete mental health records for Student Health Services clients and submit reports
• Participate with members of the SHS Center staff and college community in planning student health programs responsive to identified needs, involvement in the implementation of new need-based programs, and monitoring of existing programs for effectiveness, applicability and safety through ongoing quality improvement and program review activities.
• Engage in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
• Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, and attendance
• Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
• Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:

• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty, and staff
 AND
• Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling 
OR
• Bachelor's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling 
AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) AND
• A current California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LPCC) 
AND
• Eligibility to supervise Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW)/Associate Marriage Family Therapist (AMFT)/Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) counselor interns and trainees by having at least two (2) years of experience as a licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

Required Qualifications/Performance Expectations:

• Clinical experience with individuals, couples, families and groups
