POSITION OVERVIEW
Milken Community School now seeks its first Head of Athletics, a new position to the school, to be the athletics leader. Reporting directly to Sarah Shulkind, Head of School, this new position will oversee the entire athletics program at the school, including two Athletics Directors and all coaches, and will also be the external face of the athletics program in the greater Los Angeles community. This position will start in July 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Work closely with the Head of School, Division Heads, and other members of the Leadership Team to align the role athletics play in the school community.

Be the external face of the program in Los Angeles, building on established relationships in the community while also creating new ones.

Collaborate with the Athletic Directors, Assistant Athletic Directors, and coaches as well as other staff members to run a robust programmatic athletics program. This includes scheduling, maintaining the current facility, and hiring of coaches.

Identify off-site locations for field sports while utilizing the current connections already in place and will oversee the current usage and maintenance of the on-site gymnasium.

Be an active recruiter of “off campus” coaches while also establishing an excellent process of onboarding, training, evaluation, and retention of those coaches.

Work closely with the Head of School and other leaders in the community to plan, build, and implement a brand new, state-of-the-art athletics facility.

Market the new athletics facility’s impact on the Milken Athletics program in the Los Angeles community, and utilize the space to the school’s advantage.
QUALIFICATIONS

Significant athletic administrative experience with a background in coaching.

An ability to identify, hire, train, develop, and retain excellent coaches.

A systematic and organized thinker who has experience managing a complex athletics program.

An exceptional communicator, both oral and written, with the ability to reach many internal and external audiences.

Demonstrated ability to actively connect to a community outside of a school’s walls.

Capacity to instill a spirit around the athletics program at the school, including student, parent, and faculty participation.

The heart of an educator who sees athletics as both a distinct discipline and a vehicle to skill building and life preparation beyond sports themselves.

A strategic vision around the creation, implementation, and marketing of a new athletics facility.
HIRING RANGE: $155,000 - $185,000
