The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. Job Summary
The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) Family Support Services program helps subsidize child care payments for eligible families throughout the County of Orange. The program is funded by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), Child Care and Development Division. Subsidized child care is provided via contracts established between OCDE Family Support Services (FSS) and a provider who is an independent contractor selected by the parent. OCDE Family Support Services encourages families to carefully select a provider. Families may choose family day care homes, license exempt providers, center programs, school districts, or sectarian care. Parents are encouraged to select a child care setting that best reflects their parental and cultural values, meeting the individual needs of their family. OCDE is currently seeking a skilled and adaptable professional to serve as Program Specialist, Family Support Services. This position will assist in developing, implementing, and managing the Orange County Department of Education’s Family Support Services (FSS) Alternative Payment (AP), CalWORKs programs, and activities. The person selected will provide technical assistance, advisory planning, and consultant services and serve as a liaison with state departments, the Orange County Department of Education staff, and community agencies. The Program Specialist, Family Support Services will also provide highly responsible and complex assistance to higher level management staff.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in early childhood development programs including state-funded centers and alternative payment programs. • Three (3) years of of managerial or administrative experience in early childhood development programs including state-funded centers and alterative payment programs.
