ALUM ROCK UNION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTRICIAN DEFINITION To perform, under general supervision the work of a skilled journeyman electrician in the construction, installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment, and to do related work as required. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Be able to perform the installation of complete wiring systems, clock and fire alarm, heating and air conditioning, lighting and power, and high voltage systems; should have ability to diagnose and repair low voltage, high voltage systems, and electronic systems without the assistance of manufacturers or outside contractors should keep up with all current new equipment through either schooling or correspondence; would be required to help plan electrical alterations and installations; inspect electrical systems; read blueprints and drawings; compile material lists; may supervise the work of others related to his work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: • The tools, materials, and standard practices of the electrical trade; • Design, construction, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and facilities; State, County and City electrical codes and ordinances. Ability to: • Skillfully use electrical tools and equipment; • Work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints. • Follow verbal and written directions. • Train coworkers in similar work. SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL FUNCTION Physical ability to: • to exert physical strength necessary to move object from one level to another often during the day weighing at least fifty (50) pounds each time • be exposed to dust, grass, pollen, and paint fumes • maintain entire body in erect position without change of location for up to 30 minutes • rest weight on lower part of body • move forward from the waist • be resting on back or stomach • rotate neck or upper trunk to right or left from neutral position while sitting or standing • position arms from elbow flexion to extension • ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles, inclined surfaces • maintain body equilibrium on narrow or inclined surfaces • perform tasks on knees, or sitting on one's heels • flex and extend the foot • use hands for simply grasping, firm grasping, and fine manipulation with dominant/ non-dominant or both hands • have clear vision at 20 inches or less • judge distances and relationships between objects • identify and distinguish exact colors • to withstand exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather • wear protective apparel including goggles, face protectors, aprons, shoes, and breathing apparatus if required for safety reasons EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Knowledge of: • Design, construction, installation, and maintenance of electrical apparatus and equipment together with skill in performing electrical installation and repair work. Ability to: • Apply the standard practices, materials, and processes of the electrical trade in accordance with the National Electric code, and Electrical Safety Orders of the State of California, and the San Jose Building Code. Education/Training/Experience: • Completion of 12th grade; completion of four to five years apprenticeship, and five years experience in electrical work as a journeyman electrician. Licenses/ Certificates: • Electrical Certification • Appropriate valid California Driver's License. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION • Successful completion of a physical examination by a licensed physician based on the physical requirements of this position.
