Merced College is a midsized community college located in California's Central Valley. The Merced College Nursing Programs aim to prepare students for careers in nursing. The Professor of Nursing has the opportunity to provide innovative and extensive outreach in the local community and will be an integral part of the student educational experience. In addition, they partner with local health care agencies and aid in the promotion of the health care through nursing throughout the region and within the Merced Community College District. General Description:
This is a full-time, tenure track instructional assignment at Merced College under the general direction of the Dean of Allied Health, Kinesiology and Public Safety. The professor must be able to integrate the basic principles of nursing into both classroom and clinical instruction. The professor also must be able to assume responsibility for students in clinical facilities and establish and maintain communication between the facilities, its employees and the College. The standard teaching load is 15 units per semester, which may include evening hours.

The program maintains a focus on:

• The specialty areas of geriatrics, pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and medical-surgical background.
• Adhering to the Board of Registered Nursing guidelines.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

• Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course outlines and expectations
• Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policies and maintain regular and substantive contact with students
• Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning Management System (e.g. grades and syllabi)
• Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations
• Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods
• Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
• Participate in the development and review of curriculum
• Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
• Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees
• Represent the college within the Merced community and within professional circles
• Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments to continually improve student learning outcomes

Typical Qualifications

Required:

• Master's Degree in Nursing;

OR

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing AND Master's Degree in Health Education or Health Science.

OR

• The equivalent

OR

• The minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher:
• Master's or higher degree, which includes course work in nursing, education or administration. If degree is in something other than nursing, submit information verifying course work in nursing education.
• Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing areas to which the faculty is assigned, that can be met by either one of the following (A or B) below:
• (A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in a designated nursing area; OR
• (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrate clinical competency.

• Completion of at least one (1) years' experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing.
• Hold and maintain a current California license as a Registered Nurse, by August 18, 2024.
• Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.

Preferred:

• Current knowledge and experience in Registered Nursing.
• Experience in innovative teaching methods and curriculum development.
• Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue future technological developments.
