Duties and Responsibilities of Teachers on Special Assignment

A teacher given a special assignment will be relieved of a regular classroom teaching assignment for a stated period of time.

A Teacher on Special Assignment is responsible to the administrator(s) in charge of the project or program to which the teacher is assigned.

The duties and responsibilities of teachers on special assignment are as follows:

 1.        to perform duties directly related to the project or program to which assigned as designated by the administrator(s) in charge of the project or program; and to develop cooperatively with the administrator(s) a statement of specific duties related to the special assignment.

 2.        to make regular progress reports to the administrator(s) in charge of the project or program.

 3.        to attend job-related meetings and activities specified by the supervisor(s).

 4.        to perform those non-instructional duties and responsibilities, including supervisory and advisory duties, as may be prescribed by the Board of Education.

Panel Interviews: February 5 - Feb 9 (TENTATIVE) Important Comments: Per the MDEA contract, all incumbent Coach/Specialist or Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSA) must re-apply for assignment at the end of their 3-year eligibility term. Per article 13.7, candidates, if selected, will be placed on the District's TOSA Eligibility list. The list shall be created annually. Eligible TOSA's shall remain on the list for three years. The Coach/Specialist or Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) positions may cover a variety of content areas including, but not limited to, math, science, early literacy, technology, emerging bilingual learners support, AVID, VAPA, and history-social sciences. High levels of proficiency utilizing technology, desired. Google Suite tools are required as well as excellent written and communication skills. A coach should have an understanding of content standards, effective instructional practices, ie. Learning Acceleration, AVID, Constructing Meaning, Science of Reading, Emerging Bilingual Students support, and other best instructional practices. Candidates should also have strong background knowledge of assessment, data analysis, levels of academic rigor, and knowledge of elementary, middle, and/or high school level student learning. Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of people are essential. The coach needs to have the ability to demonstrate instructional leadership, effective lessons, provide constructive feedback and facilitate data-driven and equity focused conversations.
