THE POSITION: The assistant principal shall work with the Principal to provide educational and administrative leadership to the professional staff and students of their assigned school. Responsibilities include facilitating IEP meetings and oversight of special education programming, services and compliance, direct and indirect supervision of teachers and classified staff with the ability to coach teachers and staff and implement progressive supervision/discipline. The assistant principal will collaborate with districts, agency and community partners, and the general public; interface daily with parents; and perform related duties as assigned. The position requires progressive knowledge and experience in specialized subject matter, curriculum and instruction; special education program implementation; extensive knowledge in positive student discipline and the capacity to implement educational reform including innovative instructional, and programmatic practices. The assistant principal must be able to facilitate instructional processes and procedures, specially funded programs, testing and evaluation, and foster a nurturing climate at all school sites. Responsibilities also include the implementation and support and supervision of student services including: counseling, discipline, testing, special education, and student information and data systems. General direction is provided by the principal.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Experience: • Five or more years’ experience in special education as a teacher or service provider with increasing leadership responsibilities i.e. program specialist or assistant principal. • Experience working with at promise youth. • Experience working in special education. Education: A Master’s degree in educational leadership or administration from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation required.
