SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, to provide assessment and counseling services to students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a resource to teachers and staff at assigned schools.
Utilize current and appropriate assessment instruments, strategies and guidelines in determining eligibility for special education services.
Participate in I.E.P. meetings.
Develop interventions for students with learning and behavior problems. Assist in the development of behavior management plans.
Conference with parents and staff to explain special programs, evaluation results and the educational implications of the disability.
Counsel students.
Assist in the development of 504 accommodations plans.
Participate in the Student Study Team as a resource when needed.
ABILITY TO:
Communicate effectively with staff members, parents and students.
Work with and refer other agencies when appropriate.
Serve as a team member in the assessment and IEP process.
Complete required documentation within mandated timelines.
Incorporated within one or more of the previously-mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
Ability to work at a desk and in meetings of various configurations.
Ability to read printed matter and computer screens.
Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
Ability to understand speech at normal levels.
Ability to bend, twist, stoop and reach.
Ability to push, pull, and transport instructional materials.
Ability to drive a personal vehicle to conduct business.
Bilingual candidates preferred.
