Job Summary

Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the site administrator, performs routine healthcare procedures, administers first-aid, dispenses medication and screens ill or injured students; serves as the liaison and coordinates communication with the district nurse, health care providers, and health department; performs a variety of clerical duties to support the school health office operation, prepares and maintains student immunization and health information, records, and files. Assists with the implementation and promotion of overall student health, prevention of illness, disability, and the early detection and correction of health problems. Schedule: 7:30am-3:30pm Mon-Fri 185 days, full benefits.

Requirements / Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: •• Enter all pertinent health information into the student tracking system. • Gather and prepare health data for state and federal reports. • On a daily basis, treat children that come in to the health office. • On a daily basis, enter office visit information into the computer Student System • Keep track of required physicals and oral exam information into the computer Student System and student’s file. • File medical paperwork in student cumulative folder. • Maintain inventory of medical/health office supplies. • Medications: organize and maintain throughout the year, return meds to family at close of year, destroy any medications not picked up before leaving for Summer break. • Provide Administration with students’ Medication List, updated regularly quarterly. • Keep classroom emergency kits stocked/updated. • Enter and keep track of immunization records in the San Diego Immunization Registry; assist office with immunization inquiries. • Interpret the health status of students to parents and school personnel. • Maintains evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students. • Participate as the health team specialist on the child education evaluation team to develop interventions and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan. • Plan and implement school health management protocols for children with special health needs, including the administration of medication. • Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through preventive programs, early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases. • Serve as a resource person to the classroom teacher and administrator in health instruction and as a member of health curriculum development committees.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS: • • High school diploma or GED is required. • Bachelor's degree in nursing, health administration, biology or related field. • Certification as a licensed certified nurse's assistant (CNA), vocational nurse (LVN), registered nurse (RN) or other nursing preparation program is preferred but not required. • Experience in a health office or health related field; • A valid first-aid, CPR certification and California’s driver’s license are required. • Successful experience handling first-aid situations, and chronic health issues such as diabetes, anaphylaxis treatment and seizure disorders. • Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred.
