Speech and Language Development Center, "SLDC" is a non-profit school and therapy center serving children and young adults, ages 12 months through 40 years of age. Established in 1955, SLDC has been a renowned leader in special education and disability services, supporting Southern California. This position provides qualified candidates the opportunity to be an active member of students development by working 1:1 and in some cases small groups implementing best practices for communication development, behavioral strategies and academics. As part of the student's team, paraprofessionals will work alongside our teaching faculty and robust therapy teams to implement a comprehensive individualized program for the students we serve.

Job Duties:

Ensure the safety and well-being of the individual(s) served at all times. Plan, perform, or assist with care needs and activities with individuals according to their preference, to include, but not limited to:

  • Community access: Helping clients participate in a community based program.
  • Social, recreation and leisure skills (Help building socialization skills and relationships by facilitating activities that foster friendships and professional relationships.)
  • Communication skills,
  • Personal safety skills,
  • Behavior Management,
  • Functional skills training
  • Facilitation of meaningful daily activities, (including personal hygiene and preparing meals.)

The Primary goal of the program is to assist all participants in being actively involved in planned daily activities to achieve greater independence using person-centered planning and self-determination.

Staff are responsible for assisting individuals with functional communication, social skills, behavior and functional learning to increase overall skills.

Staff also assist with implementation of individual planned program goals for each participant, and accurately complete, maintain, and submit all documentation and written records as required per regulatory guidelines and according to required timelines. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Recording and documenting daily activities: 1 year(Preferred)
  • Working with individuals with disabilities: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Providing meaningful daily activities to individuals: 1 year (Required)
  • Assisting individuals with transfers, toileting and eating: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Teaching individuals daily living skills: 1 year (Preferred)

Education and Credentials/License:

  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certifcation
  • CA Driver License
  • Safe Driving Record
  • CPR/First Aid (Preferred)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
