Brief Description of Position:
Provides an educational program for students in grades K-6 or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaches language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, music and other appropriate learning activities to students in a classroom utilizing course of study adopted by the Darnall Charter School Board.
- Develops student understanding through a variety of relevant instructional strategies connecting prior knowledge and interests.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction.
- Adapts the curriculum to meet the needs of each student, engaging all students.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom; implements and supports the Darnall discipline policy; promotes fairness and good citizenship.
- Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports: uses multiple sources to assess student learning to provide feedback and guide instruction.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and explain the school program.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and intervening in student health, social, and learning problems.
- Creates and maintains an effective environment for student learning.
- Participates cooperatively and actively in the site governance and follows site adopted policies and procedures.
- Improves professional competence through active participation in onsite professional development.
- Collaborates regularly with teachers, administrators, and support staff to improve student achievement.
- Participates in the Darnall Teacher evaluation process.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Selects, orders, and maintains books and instructional materials; maintains required inventory records.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with Darnall testing program.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in school events as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including special assignments during crises or emergency situations as determined by the administrator.
- Is prepared, punctual, and professional.
- May plan and supervise the work of classified personnel.
Assignment Type and Work Year
Assignment in this class is full-time. Work year is single track year-round.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
1. Credential: Valid teaching credential as required by California law, CLAD certificate required
2. Education: Bachelor’s degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
3. Experience: Successful completion of 1 verifiable year of elementary teaching. May
include student teaching, substitute teaching, classroom experience, or any
combination thereof.
