The Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District crosses two counties, Mendocino and Humboldt, in the heart of the redwoods, extending from remote, mountain areas, to the Eel and Mattole River valleys, to Kings Range and out to the Lost Coast of the Pacific Ocean. The Southern Humboldt Unified School District wishes to announce an available opening for a probationary, EL Paraprofessional I, 6 hours per day M, T, Th, F and 5 hours per day on Wednesday, 5 days per week, 180 Days per year.

Requirements: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) • An Associate of Arts degree or 48 semester or 60 quarter unity of instruction at an institution of higher learning or a passing score on the Paraprofessional Proficiency Test. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence following prescribed formats. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, and parents. • Fluency in Spanish or another language spoken by a majority of the school’s English Language Learners. • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. • Ability to apply and explain basic concepts of algebra. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license • Ability to attend CPR and First Aide training • Knowledge of basic concepts of child development and behavior characteristics. • Knowledge of learning patterns and behavior, personal hygiene and mental health practices. • Knowledge of conflict resolution. • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor under difficult circumstances and performs efficiently in restricted time frames. • Ability to maintain appearance, grooming and attitude to provide a good role model for students.
