Job Summary
The Information Systems Technician (IST) will provide technical support to students and staff, maintain a log of devices, monitor and be knowledgeable of programs required for their use and the monitoring of their usage, and coordinate services and support with the third-party IT support utilized for monthly services. The IST will report to the Network Specialist and Principal. - Verbal and written communication for understanding student and staff needs and explaining directions and solutions with patience. - Attention to detail to ensure all specifications are met. - Problem-solving abilities to correct any challenges or inefficiencies for the best results. - Organization and time management to manage multiple tasks at once. - Goal-setting to set realistic deadlines and strategize daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly progress. - Collaborating with administrators, finance teams, and staff members to solve issues or prepare for upcoming events. - Managing deadlines in order for devices to be ready for required pick-up, testing dates, etc. - Organizing third-party support when needed for various devices. - Receiving and analyzing feedback from students, parents, and staff to gauge satisfaction and organize supportive actions to improve service. - Managing, organizing, and supporting usage of programs to support online, in-person and hybrid learning schoolwide.

Job title: Information Systems Technician
Description of basic functions and responsibilities
Under the direction of the organization’s Network Specialist and Principal, provide technical support in the installation, operations, setup, maintenance and repair of computers, audio visual equipment, peripherals, and software at school sites and offices; communicate with District and site support staff on technical issues and priorities; and, troubleshoot user problems using Help Desk practices, District procedures, and escalate trouble tickets when appropriate. Perform a variety of responsible technical and clerical duties involving circulation, reference, cataloging, and record keeping activities and to act as a resource person regarding available materials. This job class assists in the day-to-day operations of a school, assuming operational responsibilities under the direction of the Network Specialist and Principal, and providing technical/clerical support. This job class requires a variety of specialized, technical, and organizational skills as well as creativeness and initiative.
Representative Duties:
- Set up and configure computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.
- Set up AV equipment and conduct video recordings for events and Board meetings.
- Assist in the installation, set up, testing, and support of software applications and educational web services.
- Assist higher-level technicians in data migration, server maintenance, and backups for new school software.
- Create training documentation and maintain a variety of records and inventory.
- Assist in supporting Windows, Microsoft Office, Google, cloud base services, Student Information System, social media apps, and various operating systems and applications.
- Assist in troubleshooting and maintaining device software and hardware ensuring proper network connectivity.
- Maintain and repair computers and other technological equipment.
- Support and troubleshoot projectors, interactive white boards, and other AV equipment.
- Assist designated IT support provider with maintenance of network, including cabling, LAN and WAN, wireless LAN, switches, routers, voice gateway, mobile device management, and firewall.
- Determine when to escalate work orders to designated IT support provider.
- Collaborate with designated IT support provider in troubleshooting and installation of hardware and software.
- Communicate frequently with Network Specialist and Principal on status of work orders, opening of service tickets, and other technical issues.
- Communicate with other departments and District personnel to coordinate activities and provide technical assistance.
- Consult with vendors, service providers and technical support regarding purchase of parts, status of repairs, answers to software and hardware related questions, and opening service tickets.
- Drive a vehicle to various sites to conduct work; prioritize and respond to emergency service calls.

- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Performs circulation functions; checks materials, and equipment in and out, inspecting incoming materials for damage, need for mending, etc.
- Maintains records regarding circulation, collection works and materials, lost materials, media equipment, etc.
- Provides notification and follow up on overdue materials
- Provides information regarding library/media materials available, reference materials, and procedures
- Fills teacher requests for library/media materials and audio-visual equipment
- Orders, processes, and participates in the selection of new materials and equipment for student and staff use
- Serves as an information source to students, parents, teachers and other district personnel
Knowledge Of:
- PC’s, Mac’s, mobile devices, and networking hardware and software.
- Specialized software and settings.
- Hardware and software installation.
- Most current software applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Apps, email accounts, log on privileges, cloud based systems, and student information systems.
- Various operating systems and platforms.
- File server operations, server based software and email operations.

- Proper lifting techniques.
- District policies, State and Federal laws, rules and regulations.

Ability To:

Education:
Graduation from high school supplemented by significant course work in information technology.
Experience:
One (1) year of experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of computer systems, peripherals and related equipment.
Licenses and Other Requirement:
Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License (Class “C” minimum) and remain insurable at the standard insurance rate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employees work in classrooms, computer labs, and offices, and the noise level is usually moderate to loud. The employee travels to a variety of school and off-site facilities for support and meetings. Working conditions may include regular exposure to fumes, dust, odors, cleaning agents and chemicals. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may also occasionally be experienced.
