CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR, SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEFINITION: Under direction, to plan, assign, supervise, and personally perform routine cleaning and maintenance in the senior high schools of the District; and to do related work as required. JOB CHARACTERISTICS: Positions in this class are assigned complete cleaning and maintenance responsibility of a senior high school plant where supervision is generally extended over a staff of many full-time employees including custodians, building maintenance workers, and night head custodian; acts as coordinator between the operations department, maintenance department, and administration for the successful running of the school plant and its activities. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Confers with principal and custodial supervisor regarding care and cleaning programs of the school plant; prepares work schedules for custodians, night head custodian, and building maintenance worker and sees that their work is done in accordance with instructions to insure a clean, safe, and sanitary condition of the building at all times; at the request of the school principal, sees that rooms are set up for special events and meetings; supervises and assists building maintenance man in making repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment; reports needed major work to principal; supervises the operation and operational maintenance of heating and ventilating units; conducts frequent inspections of the school plant to insure that standards of safety and cleanliness are met for State and County requirements; gives instructions and trains personnel; requisitions classroom and custodial supplies and controls the use of these materials; submits requests for work orders to be initiated for major repairs to buildings; receives, screens, and assigns priority to requests of faculty members, and assigns custodians to fill such requests; makes assignments of custodians of custodians for overtime work at special events; maintains daily time cards as well as overtime cards and maintains a record of all overtime worked; supervises arrangements of facilities for night educational and civic meetings and meets with heads of organizations regarding their activities in using the building; keeps records and prepares reports as required; participates in cleaning and maintenance activities; prepares summer work supply orders; prepares summer work schedules and supervises plant restoration projects; recommends employee ratings; meets with local police and makes written reports regarding vandalism, theft, and burglary. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment; Requirements for maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Ability to: Supervise the work of others; Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency; Use basic mechanical tools in performing minor repairs and adjustments; Operate heating and ventilating equipment; Perform heavy physical labor; Follow verbal and written directions; Work cooperatively with others. Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in custodian work, including two years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
