ROP INSTRUCTOR - Custodial Operations

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Manager, the ROP Instructor for Custodial Operations provides instruction to prepare incarcerated adult students for employment involving custodial operations. The Custodial Operations instructor develops and implements instructional plans to assist students in acquiring the skills and knowledge needed in custodial operations. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Teaches custodial operations and processes to incarcerated adult students

Develops and implements lesson plans;

Assesses student performance;

Prepares and maintains reports and records (e.g., attendance records, student evaluation, credit, and grade system);

Communicates with staff, students, and site administration;

Maintains curriculum, instructional supplies, resources, and equipment;

Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and provides supervision of students;

Performs routine inventory of equipment and supplies;

Collaborates with outside agencies;

Attends meetings and training sessions;

Other duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience working in custodial occupations;

Skill in planning and adapting food preparation into a classroom environment; selecting instructional materials; teaching methodology to implement a curriculum; motivating students; communicating with individuals from varied educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds;

Knowledge of teaching methods and custodial operations;

Ability to communicate and work with various individuals from varied educational, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds including staff, students, and Sheriff’s Department personnel; meet deadlines; plan and adapt culinary arts and food service trainings in an adult-in-corrections classroom environment;

Physical Abilities require extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking; stamina and agility to push, pull, lift, carry, or move up to forty (40) pounds; be able to climb, balance, squat, twist, turn, bend, kneel, crawl, stoop, hear/listen, speak, and observe;  and use significant fine finger dexterity. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, in a generally hazard-free environment, and in a clean atmosphere.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid California Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential (CTE) that authorizes the teaching of Custodial Operations, -or- proof of enrollment in a credential program that will grant a credential authorization for Custodial Operations.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Three (3) years of experience in the Custodial Operations industry within the last five (5) years -or- two (2) years within the last ten (10) years.
