This is a full time 8 hour per day position. Under the supervision of a certificated administrator, the Instructional Assistant is responsible to assist a certificated teacher or other certificated personnel, by performing a variety of duties related to student instruction and teacher assistance. Recommended: 12 units in early childhood education, childhood development, or both.
Requirements / Qualifications
Instructional Assistant I - High School Diploma or equivalent Instructional Assistant II - High School Diploma plus 15 or more semester units Instructional Assistant III - Associate of Arts or Bachelor of Arts degree Valid California Driver’s License Valid First Aid/CPR certificate
1. Education Requirements Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent (required by law) Preferred: College Degree Completion of 48 semester units or Associate’s degree Coursework in child development, special education, or related fields Completion of a district-approved paraprofessional skills exam (required under ESSA if education units are not met) 2. Experience Preferred: Experience working with students in educational settings, particularly those with IEPs or behavioral needs Experience supporting students with autism, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, or physical challenges Background in classroom support, after-school programs, ABA therapy, or behavioral intervention 3. Skills & Competencies Strong communication skills with students, teachers, and families Ability to implement accommodations and modifications under the guidance of a special education teacher Patience, empathy, and ability to remain calm under pressure Willingness to assist with toileting, feeding, mobility, and other personal care tasks, if needed Ability to follow behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and collect data on student progress Basic computer and recordkeeping skills for service tracking 4. Clearances & Certifications Fingerprint clearance through DOJ and FBI TB clearance CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred or required depending on district policy) Completion of district-mandated mandated reporter, bloodborne pathogens, and other safety trainings prior to working with students 5. Professional Traits Team-oriented and responsive to direction from credentialed staff Committed to student dignity, confidentiality, and inclusive practices Flexible and open to working in different classroom or campus environments Eager to grow and learn through on-the-job training or district PD
