DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Principal, provide assistance to student athletes in the prevention, evaluation, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; receive, inventory, store, maintain and issue athletic uniforms and equipment for use in competitive sports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Any combination equivalent to college-level course work in physical education, athletic training or a related field and one year of experience involving the care, management and prevention of athletic injuries.
Licenses & Other Requirements:
Valid advanced First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
Valid California driver’s license.
Possession of National Athletic Trainers Association Certificate preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Practices, procedures and equipment used in the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; equipment, materials and supplies used in team and individual sports and the care and maintenance of related items; safety guidelines and regulations in athletic and therapeutic activities; individualized rehabilitation and reconditioning techniques and procedures for injured students; first aid and CPR techniques; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; basic record-keeping and report preparation techniques.
Ability to:
Provide assistance to students in the prevention of athletic injuries; tape and wrap athletes to prevent injury or re-injury; receive, store, issue and control inventory of uniforms, equipment and supplies to athletic teams; identify, evaluate and provide immediate first aid in response to athletic injuries; maintain and repair athletic clothing and equipment; assure student understanding of proper exercise techniques; operate first aid and adaptive equipment; understand and follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; operate athletic rehabilitation and weight equipment; maintain records and prepare reports.
