LUCERNE VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Lead Maintenance Worker

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the assigned Manager of Maintenance, provides direction, guidance, and training to maintenance and grounds employees, performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of minor construction projects including plumbing, painting, carpentry, general grounds work, and other related areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Train and provide direction to assigned maintenance and grounds staff.
  • Communicate with site personnel and administration regarding routine facility maintenance and special maintenance requests.
  • Assign and assist maintenance/grounds staff and routinely check the progress of tasks and projects.
  • Assists in planning a preventative maintenance program and scheduling necessary repairs, renovations and upkeep of buildings, facilities and the upkeep of all site property.
  • Adheres to rules and regulations to health and safety.
  • Remodels or repairs small structures and maintains buildings and equipment in operable working condition.
  • Operates and adjusts heating and ventilating equipment.
  • Makes emergency repairs and adjustments to all school sites.
  • Repairs and maintains playground equipment.
  • Trims and prunes shrubs and trees.
  • Plants, reseeds, fertilizes, renovates and maintains lawns, shrubs and trees.
  • Operates spray equipment for weeds and dust control and cleaning of building and grounds.
  • Maintains watering schedules for lawns, plants and trees.
  • Repairs, replaces and installs sprinkler systems as required.
  • Performs non-technical repairs and adjustments to furniture, fixtures and equipment.
  • Assure security of school facilities by locking and unlocking of gates.
  • Reports safety hazards and prepares work orders for skilled maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Drive a district maintenance vehicle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of materials, equipment and tools of various crafts, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and landscaping. Along with rules, regulations and laws governing construction and safety practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to read and interpret blue prints and construction specifications.
  • Oral communication abilities.
  • Health and safety regulations.
  • General maintenance of school, maintenance and custodial equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and effectively direct other employees.
  • Ability to train and to lead employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Demonstrates ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, crawling, climbing of ladders, twisting, reaching, and kneeling for extended periods of time and exposure to extreme heights.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid California Driver’s license and qualified to drive a district maintenance vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, high levels of noise, and various work-related hazards along with regular exposure to     fumes, dust, odors, and chemicals.

WORK YEAR:

  • 12 Months Per Year - 8 Hours Per Day
