$52,336-$91,517 in 17 steps, depending on experience. Up to 10 years service credit. Additional $1,500 annual stipend will be paid for a Master’s degree. Salary schedule placement is based on experience and determined by the District Superintendent.

Job Description

 

TITLE: Teacher, Special Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. California teaching credential authorizing service in area of assignment
  2. Evidence showing definite potential for success

 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Special Services, Principal, or designee

 

JOB GOAL:  To meet District goals established in relationship to specific needs of all students under his/her direction. To provide each SpEd student with program that will enable him/her to reach his fullest developmental, behavioral, and academic potential.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. In cooperation with principal and other staff members, plans instructional objectives for assigned grade level or subject area consistent with California State Standards which meet District’s and school’s educational goals, and student’s individualized educational program
  2. Creates classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to maturity and interest of students; participates with staff in establishing and maintaining effective learning climate within school; develops reasonable and specific rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in classroom in fair and just manner
  3. Evaluates each student’s learning needs and plans and provides individualized instruction to meet specific needs
  4. Participates in initial placement, review, and annual evaluation meetings as required
  5. Maintains accurate and complete records as determined by law and District policy
  6. Guides learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear performance objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives
  7. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives and appropriate for maturity and interests of students
  8. Assesses accomplishments of students on regular basis and provides progress reports as required; confers with colleagues, students and parents regarding pupil progress as needed
  9. Diagnoses learning disabilities of students on regular basis and makes referrals as required
  10. Makes referrals to counselor or principal of pupils who demonstrate severe unsocial behavior patterns
  11. Maintains positive relationship with all parents through “back-to-school” events, classroom visitations, conferences, telephone conversations, written communication and work samples so that parents are aware of their children’s school progress and adjustment
  12. Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulations including cumulative record folders, attendance reports, Reports to Parents
  13. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions in care and use of instructional materials and equipment and shares in responsibility for maintenance of safe and attractive buildings and grounds
  14. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy
  15. Carries out assigned pupil supervision outside classroom such as yard duty, assemblies, athletic events and extracurricular activities and fire and other emergency drills
  16. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service meetings, curriculum development and materials evaluation
  17. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
  18. Coordinates activities of teacher aides and volunteers as assigned

 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year to be according to current schedule; teacher salary schedule

 

EVALUATION:  According to Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.
